Types of contracts

  • Full time contract: 40 hr work week + two to three 24-hour shifts

  • Full time contract and PhD: 40 hr work week + two to three 24-hour shifts + lab/research for the PhD

  • Half time contract and PhD: 20hr work week + lab/research for PhD (however this type of contract is becoming less and less common)

Specialization

  • You will work most of the time in the field of your choice, however there are a few rotations that you have to do.

  •  In general you will do 2.5 years of training and then you will be eligible to take an exam called “Kmen” or “Root” exam. 

  • After passing the the exam you will do 2-3 more years of training (depending on your specialization) after which you will be regarded as a  specialist in the EU

  • After that if you choose to continue sub-specializing it can take anywhere from 1-5 years.

Salary

  • On average starting salary is around 33,000 czk per month excluding 24 hour shifts and PhD pay.

  • More PhD publications means a higher salary, starts at about 11,000 czk per month

  • Your pay class depends on your qualifications (pay increases if you earned your PhD or passed the “Kmen”)

When to apply?

  • For the Full time contract applications generally start January/February

  • Normal Full time contract applications are anywhere between January and July
